Lindsey Ryan: Snippies

3/7/2006

Dear Lindsey,

Having looked at Snippies' website, I am convinced that my talents and Snippies' objectives are an excellent fit. Your company emphasizes the power of video testimonial and the importance of interviewing. I think that my most relevant experience comes from the corporate video projects I prepared for Cosmocom Inc. In The Cosmocom Story, 2003, I conducted interviews with the executives to tease out the best material to guide the story of the company's founding and substantial growth. I collaborated with Cosmocom staff on writing the voiceover script after gathering the footage, and supplied the narration.

Customer testimonials are especially powerful. Customers will say things that salesmen would never come up with, and wouldn't be effective saying. In 2004, I explored this power, acting as one-man crew in shoots on locations including Colorado Springs, Miami, Milan, Manchester and Paris in the Cosmocom Customer Experience

You might also be particularly interested in the video segments I designed to complement musical numbers in the Harvard-Radcliffe Drama Club's production of A New Brain, especially, "The Yes Song," a small piece of genre parody.

My resume notes my training in film and drama, as well as my undergraduate work in the field of Folklore and Mythology. Rather than an interest separate from film, I chose this field because it gave me an opportunity to study storytelling in a very distinctive way. I studied old stories, passed on through oral tradition for years prior to the invention of a written language to preserve them. If I could bring an understanding of what made these stories worth remembering and recounting, this would make my storytelling more effective.

My complete reel is available here online for your perusal, along with samples of my writing. Again, thank you very much for arranging our meeting.

Take care,
David Kowarsky
