Okay then, now that you've seen the film, you might note that it bears a striking resemblance to the 2002 film Adaptation. Please note that this film was conceived and completed TWO YEARS prior to the release of that film and legal action against Charlie Kaufman (if only as a publicity stunt) is still under consideration. Now, this film did not, in fact, predate Fellini's 8 and a Half or Andre Gide's The Counterfeiters, or any of the other great works that involve mise en abyme, or the idea of going into meta levels to tell the story. This idea remained of great interest and fascination to David, and his undergraduate thesis focused on this technique in Beowulf. (His thesis, as well as other academic writings of his are coming to this site soon.)
